Here’s an article to introduce you to the issues of self-love as seen through the lens of Human Design…

I did a survey a while back asking of people were more concerned with relationships or self-love.  Most people said that self-love was most important to them. They recognized that without self-love it’s nearly impossible to have a good love relationship with another person.

When we look at the issues of love and lovability in Human Design, we typically start by looking at the G Center. It’s the center for love, direction and identity.

Undefined G Center

When you have a G Center that’s not colored in (undefined), you will typically struggle with the ins and outs of love. Literally, the energy of love comes in and then it goes out. When people are sending you the vibration of love, it fills you up. You take it in and experience it in an amplified way. And then when it goes, it can leave the feeling of a big void in your heart.

When you have an undefined G Center it means that you are designed to be open to love. And even though love is elusive at times, it’s not a personal thing. Ultimately when you make peace with the fact that the energy of love comes and goes, and you find within yourself that that deep sense of love for yourself, then you can begin to cultivate the true potential of this center… which is to become wise about how the energy of love is to be used and dealt with.

Defined G Center

A lot of people who are familiar with Human Design, think that only people with an undefined G Center struggle with issues of self-love. In my experience that’s not necessarily the case.  If you have a G Center that’s defined, you also have the potential to struggle with the level of love that you give to yourself.

You show up as who you are. You have more or less a fixed direction as you’re moving through life. And you radiate love consistently into the world. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t struggle with your own sense of love and self-acceptance … especially if you have one or more of the channels that goes from the G Center to the throat.

When you have a defined G Center, your sense of self is right out there for everyone to experience, and for you to express directly. This can make you very vulnerable to other people’s criticisms, to feeling like you’re out there and exposed.

If you have a defined G Center and you’re struggling with self-love, what you’re probably struggling with is a sense of not feeling like it’s ok to show up as who you are. You may feel that it’s not ok to shine your light so that people can see you for who you really are. The truth is that people are seeing you for who you are anyway! They may feel that something’s off with you when you’re trying to hide or fit in with them, if you’re really not designed to do so.

The G Center and Healing

Whether or you have a defined or undefined G Center, this is a place where you can be deeply wounded, almost down to your soul.

If you’re struggling with lovability or you’re afraid to shine your light or be who you are, be gentle with yourself. Follow your innate strategy for meeting with life’s challenges and opportunities. Learn to trust how you’re designed to make decisions.

On top of that, take this information in about how you deal with love, or how you show up in the themes of love. Take some time to reflect on how you may have been wounded deep in your heart or deep in your soul. Now is the time to begin to heal that.

When you heal those wounds deep in your heart, and you begin to reset and realign your whole energy system, then you can bring yourself up to a higher level of love that you can have inside and share with others.
